Jamie Nelson for Nylon Magazine: A Tutorial

Honestly we both look like we smelt something bad, but I was just trying to match this girl's ~model~ coolness.

Here we have a totally natural every day makeup pictorial, totally school/workplace appropriate!

Of course I'm joking, don't be silly. I just wanted to recreate this gorgeous edgy makeup I saw on someone's instagram from Nylon magazine. MUA: Jenny Smith.

This makeup was pretty straight forward to recreate purely because it's meant to be messy so there was hardly any time spent blending shadows.
First I did my usual base makeup which will be listed lower down in the post.
After priming my eyelids I sweeped a couple of layers of a black eyeshadow to build up the colour.

I then lined my waterline with a black kohl eyeliner and applied a bright blue shadow messily and created some soft downward flicks on the outer corner.
Taking the same kohl liner I defined my upper and lower lashlines to achieve the more edgy/smoky/grungy look in the picture.

Now came the fun part, the mascara! I coated my top and bottom lashes in a slightly lighter coat than in the photo - just my own personal preference. Then I just went to town all over my eyelids trying to mimic the messy pattern with the mascara wand, dabbing and dragging for different effects.

After quickly applying some inner corner highlight with a silvery shadow, the look was complete! For lips I just applied a simple pink lipgloss as you can't see what she has on in the picture, but I figured neutral lips would work nice with such dramatic eyes!

(Btw my hair looks messy as fuck in this picture because it was still damp from washing hair dye out - I took the development time to play with makeup and this look happened)
Here's an outtake photo to illustrate:
I'm so gorgeous, I know. Got that plastic bag chic on fleek.
